Oh the Places You’ll Go!

It’s May—the month of graduation, hopes and dreams. According to the Dr. Seuss book, “Oh the Places You’ll Go!”

“You have brains in your head

You have feet in your shoes

You can steer yourself any direction you choose”

A recent survey on LinkedIn, reported 1 in 11 people are working in their childhood dream job. That’s not surprising especially if you know the top answers from eight-year-olds when asked what they want to be when they grow up: teacher, athlete, veterinarian, firefighter, police officer, zookeeper, scientist and singer (other answers include “Spiderman” and “to be rich”). The career that doesn’t make the list is “Realtor,” except on the list of a beautiful young girl who said that’s all she ever wanted to be.

Meet Ieasha Howell Larkpor, the energetic little fireball behind Thunder Team Realty, one of Oklahoma City’s newest real estate agencies conveniently located at 1701 N. Broadway.

“All I wanted to do my whole life was to be a realtor. When I was about eight-years-old, I became crazy about it when my parents were looking for a house,” Ieasha reminisces. “Our realtor was poised and wore a suit. She appeared to be a hard worker and although I had no idea how much money she made, I knew she had a chance to be outside, to dress up and to meet people. She made it all look so good; and she’s still in the business today.”

Several years later, in the turmoil of the divorce of her parents, Ieasha attended three high schools including John Marshall, Northeast Academy and Midwest City. After enrolling in college, like her parents told her to, she began at the University of Central Oklahoma and later transferred to Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma City. Working in real estate while attending college, Ieasha found out the hard way when a client needed to see a home during class time, she knew she couldn’t do both effectively so she leaped to pursue her dreams in real estate.

The walls at Thunder Team Realty are covered in awards Ieasha has won including:

Highest Number of Units Closed (2012)

Highest Volume (2011, 2012)

Highest Volume Closed Company-Wide (2011, 2012, 2013)

Rising Star (2010,2011)

Most Transactions Closed (2011, 2013)

Rookie of the Year Company-Wide (2009)

Not only does she find homes to meet her clients’ family needs, she has even matched a few of her clients to each other. “Four people have gotten married, and one engaged” Ieasha recalls. Some say when she knows what kind of house you like, she can pick your spouse too. All four couples are still married today.

Specializing in new construction, Ieasha says, “I love and have a heart for new construction. I like the progression of the project and to see people get exactly what they want.” Ieasha knows a lot about the process. “I had my own home built which I designed, and customized everything down to the studs,” she said. By matching her clients with the builder who meets their needs, Ieasha offers the same service to her clients that she did for herself. “Negotiating to get clients the best price for each part of their new home is what I enjoy the most,” she said.

Built in 2012, Ieasha’s home is about to go on the market as she and her husband Samuel, an insurance agent, had the needs of their family change. “With 10 and 5-year-old sons, one of whom I homeschool, and the other with special needs, we needed their bedrooms to be on the same level,” she explained. The home was built for entertaining, an open floor plan, and a gorgeous view of downtown Oklahoma City. “We’ve thrown a ton of parties here at 334 NE 59Th in Oklahoma City. Wait till you see what we’re building next!” Ieasha’s home is scheduled for the first open house on Sunday May, 7 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Thunder Team Realty is staffed with two people and 11 agents and offers every service attached to a piece of real estate including residential, commercial, land, new construction, short sales, foreclosures and more. Ieasha’s five-star online rating is full of testimonials of clients’ dreams becoming realities.

On April 15, Ieasha was honored as the 2017 Entrepreneur of the Year by co-hosts Perry Publishing and Broadcasting and First Mortgage. The award recognizes the achievements of women of color who best exemplify the ideals of entrepreneurship by starting and successfully managing one or more businesses in a way that demonstrates notable entrepreneurial characteristics and achievements while representing community values in the workplace and in their lives.
